
List of Volunteer Opportunities
Weekly Programs
All weekly programs run for seven weeks between June 13 and August 1. In order to be placed as a weekly volunteer, volunteers must be available for a minimum of four of the seven weeks.
Mondays, 2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Summer Adventurers Storytime
This storytime is for kids ages 5 – 7 only. You will help set up storytime by collecting puppets, books, props, and anything else needed for that day. You may be asked to set up tables and craft supplies. During storytime, you will help with crowd control and help kids pay attention. You will also enthusiastically sing songs and rhymes in addition to performing in puppet shows and acting out stories. This includes memorizing simple lines, making silly voices and animal sounds, projecting your voice loud, and being able to energetically move a puppet. Volunteers will also help with craft activities. Volunteers may be asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm and comfort level prior to assignment. Monday, June 15 please arrive at 1:30 p.m. for training. Must attend an additional mandatory training on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Kindergarten Readiness Storytime
This storytime is for kids ages 3 ½ – 5 only. You will help set up storytime by collecting puppets, books, props, and anything else needed for that day. You may be asked to set up tables and activity supplies. During storytime, you will help with crowd control and help kids pay attention. You will also enthusiastically sing songs and rhymes in addition to performing in very simple puppet shows and acting out stories. This includes memorizing simple lines, making silly voices and animal sounds, projecting your voice loud, and being able to energetically move a puppet. Volunteers will also help monitor activity centers with the kids. Volunteers may be asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm and comfort level prior to assignment. Tuesday, June 16 please arrive at 9:30 a.m. for training. Must attend an additional mandatory training on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Tuesdays, 2:00 – 4:30 p.m.
Double Digits Club
This activity is for ages 10 – 13 only. You will help set up tables, craft supplies, games, and more. During the program you will help kids with crafts, run/supervise games, and assist staff with anything they need. Tuesday, June 16, please arrive at 1:30 p.m. for training.
Wednesdays, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Wacky Wednesday
This storytime is for families with young kids. You will help set up storytime by collecting puppets, books, props, and anything else needed for that day. During storytime, you will enthusiastically sing songs and rhymes in addition to performing in puppet shows and acting out stories. This includes memorizing simple lines, making silly voices and animal sounds, projecting your voice loud, and being able to energetically move a puppet. Volunteers may be asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm and comfort level prior to assignment. Wednesday, June 17 please arrive at 9:30 a.m. for training. Must attend an additional mandatory training on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Thursdays, 12:00 – 2:00 p.m.
2:30 – 4:00 p.m.
6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Thursday Shows
These performances are for families. If you work the first show of the day, you will help set up the room including putting chairs in rows, taping off areas on the floor, and anything else that needs to be done. During the show, you will make sure families stay clear of the aisles, keep kids off of the stage, monitor the doors for re-entry, keep count at the doors, and anything else that needs to be done. If you work the last show of the day, you will put away all of the chairs, clean up anything left from the show, and help make sure the library is ready to close for the night. Thursday, June 18, please arrive early for training: 11:30 a.m., 2:15 p.m., or 5:45 p.m.
Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
LEGO Mania
This activity is for families of all ages. You will help set up by putting out tables and chairs, spreading out LEGOs, and getting anything else ready that is needed for that day. During LEGO Mania you will help keep the room clean by picking up LEGOs off the floor, encouraging kids in their builds, and helping with prep for other programs as needed. You WILL NOT play with or build your own LEGO creations at this program. On Friday, June 19, please arrive at 9:30 a.m. for training.
Saturdays, 9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Family Storytime
This storytime is for families of all ages. You will help set up storytime by collecting puppets, books, props, and anything else needed for that day. During storytime, you will enthusiastically sing songs and rhymes in addition to performing in puppet shows and acting out stories. This includes memorizing simple lines, making silly voices and animal sounds, projecting your voice loud, and being able to energetically move a puppet. Volunteers may be asked to demonstrate their enthusiasm and comfort level prior to assignment. Must attend a mandatory training on Saturday, June 6 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Prize Booth
2 hour weekly shift
Help encourage kids to read by handing out prizes. During your shift you will make sure prizes are stocked, look up children's accounts online, hand out listed prizes in a clear and organized way, help maintain the organization of the prizes, and help with anything else a staff member might need. You must have basic computer/tablet skills and the ability to communicate effectively with kids and adults. Must attend a mandatory training on one of the following dates: Thursday, June 4, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 6, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday, June 10, 4:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Shelving
2 hour weekly shift
You will work independently or with a partner to help maintain the cleanliness and organization of the children's department. During your shift you will clean up the room, dust the shelves, alphabetize and shelve books, straighten the books on the shelves, make sure the books are where they belong, and anything else staff might need to be done that day. You must be able to alphabetize by whole words and place in number order. You must also have a keen eye for detail and be able to stay on task. Must attend a mandatory training on one of the following dates: Thursday, June 4, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, June 6, 2:00 – 4:00 p.m.; Wednesday, June 10, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.
On Call Position
Prize Booth Substitute Only
On-Call 2-hour shift
For volunteers who cannot commit to a weekly schedule. Prize Booth Substitutes will be offered to fill open shifts throughout the summer. These shifts can be planned ahead or you may be called in last minute. You will help encourage kids to read by handing out prizes. During your shift you will make sure prizes are stocked, look up children's accounts online, hand out listed prizes in a clear and organized way, help maintain the organization of the prizes, and help with anything else a staff member might need. Volunteers who have a weekly or on-call position may sign up to work any of these additional programs if space is available.

Summer Reading Kick- off Festival
This library-wide event is for all ages. You will be assigned to help with carnival booth games, crafts, prize redemption, or anything else staff needs for the day. You may be working outside so please wear sunscreen and bring a hat and water.
Tuesdays, June 16, June 30, July 14, July 28, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Pajama Rama
This storytime is for families of all ages. You will help set up storytime by collecting puppets, books, props, and anything else needed for that day. This program is for all ages. You will help set up tables and supplies and be assigned to work a station. Each volunteer will be instructed on how to run their station and are expected to communicate with kids and adults while helping them complete the activity. Volunteers may be working together. Activities may include crafts, science, games, or activities.
Saturday, July 25, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Splash into STEAM
This program is for all ages. You will help set up tables and supplies and be assigned to work a station. Each volunteer will be instructed on how to run their station and are expected to communicate with kids and adults while helping them complete the activity. Volunteers may be working together. Activities may include crafts, science, games, or activities.
Saturday, August 1, 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Salute to Summer
This library-wide event is for all ages. You will be assigned to help with games, crafts, or anything else staff needs for the day. You may be working outside so please wear sunscreen and bring a hat and water.
